There are many ways to build a multiple choice quiz for the internet.  This quiz was created using some of the new features of Flash MX, in particular the methods and properties of the TextField object.

A major design goal of the Flash MX program that generates this quiz was to allow teachers or professors to work with their existing multiple choice documents (NotePad, WordPad, Word), thus eliminating the need to work with HTML forms or templates.

Given an existing document with a multiple choice quiz format:

quiz=1. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

A.   XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

*B.  XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

C. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

D. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

2. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

*A. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

B. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

C. XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX

3. XXXXXXXXXXXXXX

It is only necessary to add quiz= in front of the first question and asterisks *  in front of the correct answers, as shown above. Then save the quiz as a text file ( yourQuiz.txt).  The interactive quiz then can be added to the course web site by including  the HTML and Flash MX swf  files for this program along with the yourQuiz.txt file in a common folder.  If a professor or teacher wanted to modify a quiz, they only need to work with the yourQuiz.txt file.

This basic multiple choice quiz program can be customized in many ways.  For example a hints window or explanation window could be added for each question.  Again the hints or explanations need only be included in the folder as a text file (.txt) and the customized Flash MX program would automatically include them in this interactive quiz.

Additional customized features could include password requirements and storage of student responses in a database.  Students could compare their responses with the average responses of other students that have previously taken the quiz.

Examples of some these variations will be added  to MINDdrops.com web site as time permits.
